Girls Spring Volleyball League

Girls Spring Volleyball League

The March to June spring season is dedicated to girls volleyball. The program has grown from 220 players in 2012 to over 800 players with 150+ volunteer coaches and 70+ teams, making it one of the largest youth volleyball programs in the area.

Our main goal for each season is simple - we hope each player wants to play volleyball again after the season ends, whether it's in our league, in a club program, or for an intramural or club team in college. We - the McLean Youth Volleyball volunteer staff - love playing and coaching volleyball, and we hope your daughter's involvement with our program either begins or continues a life-long journey of playing volleyball and enjoying all the benefits that this sport provides.

Registration is now open!

Spring 2026 Registration Changes

Please note the following changes to registration for the Spring 2026 season - each is mentioned in the registration process as well:

  1. To facilitate constructing 70+ teams in a very short time window, we are requiring that a player have at least 5 available "slots" each week for practice, where a "slot" is either 5:30 to 7:30 pm or 7:00 to 9:00 pm on a given weeknight. This is particularly important for our Middle School Select league, where having enough available slots can be the difference in being drafted onto a team.
  2. High School players interested in our HS Select or HS Travel leagues should register in the age group named "High School Select and Travel (Tryout required)" as opposed to the "High School House" age group. There is no waitlist for this age group - you get onto a team either as part of a friend group that has a coach that has communicated their interest in coaching to mcleanvb@gmail.com , or you attend the Travel and/or Select tryouts in early March and are selected onto a team.
  3. High School players that want to tryout for Select/Travel but play House in case they're not drafted need to register for both age groups. You'll be charged the $140 registration fee for each age group, but we will immediately refund you for one fee once we know which league you're in.

Spring 2026 Schedule

Our schedule for the spring season is below. For more information on each league, please scroll down to the "Program Structure" section.

A couple notes specific to registration:

  • Our teams are all coached by volunteers and we are always looking for new volunteer coaches! For adult head coaches - your child plays for free and is guaranteed a spot in the league. For student coaches - being a coach is a great opportunity for service hours and an excellent addition to any college application.
  • For high school students looking to referee, including returning referees - please see our Referee Handbook for instructions on registering as a ref for the spring season.

Program Structure

The spring season has nine (9) leagues across three categories:

  • "House" is open to all girls regardless of skill and past experience
    • 4th Grade House League, with room for 3rd graders as well.
    • 5th Grade House League
    • 6th Grade House League
    • 7th Grade House League
    • 8th Grade House League
    • 9th-12th Grade House League
  • "Select" is for girls looking for a more competitive experience:
  • "Travel" is the most competitive for girls interested in keeping their skills fresh for the next school season:

Which League Should I Register For? The House leagues are open to everyone regardless of skill and past volleyball experience, while the MS Select, HS Select, and HS Travel leagues are for more advanced players who are not already playing for a club team. Whichever league you target, everyone must first register based in school grade. The Select and Travel leagues require a tryout which is optional. Those who earn a spot on a MS Select, HS Select or HS Travel team will have their registrations automatically transferred to the appropriate league. All others are assigned to the House league.

When Are Practices? During the spring, MYA Volleyball has access to most public school gyms in the McLean-area from Monday through Friday between 5:30pm and 9:00pm. Each House, HS Select, and HS Travel team practices once per week for 90 minutes on a dedicated court, while MS Select teams practice twice a week. During registration, participants indicate which weekday evenings are available for practices and other special requests (friends, coaches, etc.). Our schedulers then work to assign each player to a team that practices on an available evening while honoring special requests.

When Are Matches? Matches in all leagues are on Saturdays between 9:00am and 6:00pm at schools in the greater McLean area. House leagues play one 60-minute match (3 games) while Select and Travel leagues play one 90-minute match (5 games). The scheduling software randomly selects the start times, locations and opponents.

How Does It Work? To help illustrate some key points, let's take the example of three sisters in Middle School. All three start off registering based their school grade, filling out the days of the week they are available for practices and any special requests.

  • The first sister does not attend a MS Select tryout and is placed on a House team that practices on a weekday evening she indicated as available. Based on her special requests, the team includes the coach and friends she requested plus several friends who requested her.
  • The second sister attends the optional MS Select tryout but is not selected. She remains in the House league. Based on her special requests, she is placed on the same team as her first sister. The team is also assigned a friend the second sister requested and another friend who made a request to play with her.
  • The third sister attends the optional MS Select tryout and is offered a roster spot. Her registration is automatically transferred to the MS Select league. She is drafted to a MS Select team that practices on two weekday evenings she indicated as available.
  • All three sisters play matches on Saturdays sometime between 9am and 6pm with start times, locations, and opponents determined by the scheduling software.
